Repair Before Eliminate: The Missing Step in Worm Protocols
When a child keeps getting worms, repetitive treatment is often undertaken. But these reoccurring infections are often less about exposure and more about what is happening inside the gut. A damaged gut lining and a depleted microbiome create optimal conditions for worms to thrive. Treating the infection without addressing these factors is one of the main reasons worms keep coming back.
The gut lining acts as a physical barrier against invaders. When compromised, it affects the local production of secretory IgA, the immune system's first line of mucosal defence. Research consistently associates low secretory IgA with increased susceptibility to parasitic infections, which means repairing the gut before treating the infection gives the immune system a fighting chance.
BB Kids Repair is designed to address this preparation phase across three areas. The first is physical repair of the gut lining. Glutamine, glycine, slippery elm, and marshmallow root all directly support mucosal integrity, helping to restore the epithelial barrier that parasites exploit when it is compromised. Saccharomyces boulardii, also present in the formula, has been shown in research to upregulate tight junction proteins, further strengthening barrier function and reducing intestinal permeability. Liquorice root contributes anti-inflammatory support to this process.
The second is restoring a healthy microbial environment. Green banana powder, larix arabinogalactan, and pectin are all fermentable prebiotics that selectively feed beneficial bacteria, creating a gut environment that is less favourable for parasitic colonisation. These work in concert with the probiotic blend of Bifidobacterium breve, Lactobacillus plantarum, and Lactobacillus rhamnosus, three strains with well-established roles in gut barrier support and immune modulation.
The third is priming mucosal immunity before elimination begins. Vitamin D and zinc citrate both directly support secretory IgA production, ensuring the immune system is positioned to respond effectively once treatment starts.
Once the gut lining is supported and the immune system primed, the protocol moves into BB Kids Eliminate. Pomegranate peel has demonstrated antiparasitic activity across multiple species in peer-reviewed research, with its active polyphenols binding and disrupting the structural proteins of parasitic worms. Nigella sativa contributes additional anthelmintic activity, and activated charcoal acts as a binder, adsorbing the metabolic waste and endotoxins released during worm clearance. Repair is then reintroduced in the follow up phase to recolonise the microbiome and support lasting recovery.
Most worm protocols stop at the kill phase. This one starts before it and finishes after it, because lasting results depend on the environment, not just the treatment.
