Black Cumin

Title:

A Comprehensive Review of the Antioxidant, Antimicrobial, and Therapeutic Efficacies of Black Cumin (Nigella sativa L.) Seed Oil and Its Thymoquinone (TQ)

Objective:

Examine the antimicrobial properties of black cumin oil, followed by an analysis of its antioxidant capabilities.

Results:

These studies have revealed a wide range of pharmacological properties, including anticancer, immunomodulatory, analgesic, antimicrobial, antidiabetic, and anti-inflammatory effects. Additionally, TQ has shown neuroprotective, spasmolytic, bronchodilatory, hepatoprotective, renoprotective, gastroprotective, and antioxidant activities.

Conclusion:

Nigella sativa and its active compound thymoquinone exhibit broad-spectrum antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and organ-protective effects. Collectively, the evidence supports its role as a multi-target therapeutic agent with potential relevance to gut-associated immune modulation and microbial balance.
