Autism & Mercury
Title:
The relationship between mercury and autism: A comprehensive review and discussion
Objective:
This study focuses specifically on mercury exposure and ASD by conducting a comprehensive literature search of original studies in humans that examine the potential relationship between mercury and ASD
Results:
In this evaluation, it was found that 74% of studies support a link between mercury exposure and ASD, which corroborates a previous evaluation of the same issue conducted in 2010
Conclusion:
The majority of the epidemiological research also support the hypothesis that mercury is a risk factor for ASD. Based on the preponderance of the evidence, mercury exposure is causal and/or contributory in ASD. With the increase in neurodevelopmental disorders in general, and especially ASD, the evidence suggests that governmental/public policy changes are urgently needed.
